West Auckland Carpet Overlocking

Carpet binding for mats, rugs and runners

Carpet binding finishes a cut edge with a strip of material. It is an alternative to a stitched overlocked border for suitable rugs, mats and runners. Based in Massey, we assess carpet edging enquiries from customers across West Auckland.

When should I consider binding?

Consider binding when a defined border suits the appearance you want. Send a photo of your carpet and explain where the finished piece will go; carpet thickness, backing, curves and intended use affect the choice.

Ask about the available finish and colour options before confirming your job. A suitable option cannot be guaranteed from a colour name alone.

Binding carpet offcuts into useful pieces

Suitable remnants can become household mats or hallway runners. Measure both the available carpet and the desired finished piece, then send those measurements with your enquiry.

Read the offcuts-to-mats and runners guide for measuring and preparation.

Binding or overlocking?

Binding uses a strip around the edge; overlocking uses stitched yarn. Neither finish makes unsuitable carpet suitable for every environment or adds a non-slip backing.

Compare binding and overlocking, or call or text a photo for advice about your piece.

Questions before you call or text

What is the difference between carpet binding and overlocking?

Binding covers a cut carpet edge with a strip of material. Overlocking wraps yarn around the edge with stitching. The appearance differs, and suitability depends on the carpet, shape and intended use.

Can a hallway runner have a bound edge?

A suitable piece of carpet can be assessed for a bound runner edge. Send its dimensions, a photo of the carpet and backing, and the finished size you need.

Can I choose the edge colour?

Ask about available colours and finishes for your carpet when requesting a quote. A photo is useful to start the discussion, but screen colours may not match the material exactly.

What does a binding quote need?

Send your suburb, the number of pieces, length and width of each piece, photos and your preferred finish if known. Include details of curves or cut-outs so the job can be assessed.
